R.J.Trevarthen Ltd. was founded by Robert John Trevarthen Over 40 Years Ago

As a sole trader, Robert built the business from a very small concern into the Multi-site Abattoir, Wholesale, Catering, and Retail business that it is today. His passion and drive to supply ‘Cornish Meat from Cornish Farms’ along with a huge amount of hard work and effort is still the driving force behind the company’s ethos. This mantra shines through in all areas of the business. None more so than our traditional farm shop retail outlet in Stithians. The friendly and helpful staff will fulfill all of your meat, veg and delicatessen needs as well as a huge range of other products that you would also find in a local farm shop.
Robert sadly passed away a number of years ago. He handed the Trevarthen reigns to Mark ‘Archie’ Rowe who has been an integral part of the business for 28 years. With help and support from the whole Trevarthens team, the experience, insight, and guidance that Robert instilled in him, not to mention his own hard work Archie has progressed the Company to new heights and continues to drive the business forward in away that Robert would be proud of.

Now in our 40th year we continue to serve all sectors of the food industry and are one of the few companies who can fully trace the products back to its true Cornish origins providing relevant supporting documentation.

Operating from the re-developed site at Roskrow our fully licensed premises allows us to provide the most complete package to the local community. Our success is based on the personal selection of all livestock either from local markets or direct from the farm, thus limiting unnecessary travel time and stress. The welfare of livestock has always been and will continue to be the foundation on which we build.
We are constantly inspected and audited by National, Regional and Local Authorities in all of our activities. These include The British Retail Consortium, Food Standard Agency, the Organic Farmers and Growers (allowing us to process Organic Meats) EFSIS, DEFRA, and the RSPCA. Using Traditional methods carcasses are hung under controlled conditions to ensure full maturing of meat which enhances both flavour and quality.
As regulations overseeing the food safety increase we are probably the only company based in the County that can offer the most complete range of meat-related products, all of which are processed on-site. Our customer base consists of wholesale & retail butchers, bakers, retail outlets, catering establishments both great and small, and the individual seeking a quality Cornish product and service.
